Interview
(taken from the "Born 20 years too late" zine from Canada)

WHICH BAND MEMBERS WHERE IN RECHARGE BEFORE?

Björn: Me (drums), Andreas K. (bass, he played guitar in Recharge under the name Paul) and Jens (guitar). We have a new singer, that´s basically all.

APPARENTLY WARCOLLAPS USED TO BE CALLED AUDIOCOLLAPS.DID YOU KNOW THIS?

Jens & Andreas K.: No

ARE YOU GUYS INTO DEATH METAL A LOT? IF SO WHAT BANDS?

Andreas K: Can´t read their names, only some.

Jens: I only listened to DM in the last month. What bands? Buy our new Mini-CD, maybe you will find out then.

Björn: My favourites are Napalm Death and Bolt Thrower.

IS THE PUNK SCENE BIG IN HANOVER?

Jens: No, it was bigger in the past.

Andreas K: Medium Middleclass

Björn: The older people are rarely seen, but there is still some good offspring. There are also some good gig places like the Stumpf.

ARE THE KIDS THAT ARE INTO BANDS LIKE OXYMORON AND OTHER OI STUFF LIKE THAT ARE INTO CRUST AND GRIND LIKE AUDIOKOLLAPS? OR IS THERE A DIVISION AMONGST PEOPLE?

Björn: No, not really. The “scenes” have mostly united. A few months ago, we played with a punk´n´roll band and it seemed that the audience enjoyed both bands very much.

WHERE DO YOU GUYS PLAY SHOWS MOST OF THE TIME?

Jens: Mainly in Germany. We are trying to play at some festivals next year.

Björn: In all venues where it seems to be worth playing. We played one gig in Holland recently.

7-What is more important for the band. Uniqueness of the music, energy, sincerity, anything else?

Jens: There are a lot of things which are important for the band; you already mentioned some.

DO ANY VENUES GET SHUT DOWN?

Andreas K: No, mostly they grow like mushrooms.

Jens: One venue in Karlsruhe (South Germany) had to shut down recently.

IS THERE ALOT OF PROBLEMS WITH COPS AND BONEHEADS?

Jens: Not so much in Hanover, but in other cities it´s quite different.

Björn: Sometimes it seems that at some events, the cops in general have become friendlier than they used to behave years ago. At one punk open air festival near our city, for example, they even parked outside the festival area with an alcohol analyzer so that every driver could check their breath the next morning.

YOU GUYS RECORDED YOUR FIRST LP WITH MIESKO TALARCZYK AS PRODUCER.HE IS REALLY INVOLVED IN THE SWEDISH SCENE AND IS IN MANY BANDS.HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH HIM?

Andreas K: Good.

Jens: He is ok. Good recording, the mixing was not so good because he became ill.

Björn: We had to do the mixing and mastering again in Hanover but he did the basic sound very well.

YOUR LYRICS ARE VERY POLITICAL. ARE ANY OF YOU INVOLVED IN ANY KIND OF ACTIVISM?

Andreas K: Wanna be terrorist?

Jens: I´m a student of history and politics. So analyzing and clearing up is going to be my activity; no other activity except playing with AK.

Björn: No time left. I play in two bands, do a weekly punk radio show, write for the Plastic Bomb zine and have two jobs.

IS THE GERMAN SCENE GENERALLY ACTIVE OR APOLITICAL?

Jens: It´s changing from active to apolitical. The reason for this are not that the political people become fewer but the apolitical become more, it´s the so called fun generation.

Björn: I think the scene in general is more political than in other countries.

IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE PRE-BERLIN WALL SCENE AND THE POST-BERLIN WALL SCENE?

Andreas K: Well, I´m only in Berlin every 10 years.

DOES THE BAND TAKE UP A LOT OF YOUR TIME?

Andreas K: Mentally.

Björn: Yes, there´s always a lot of work with gig planning, practicing, writing songs, answering letters and mails etc.

Jens: Yes, I practice nearly every day to improve my technique. And to compose a new song can take from a few hours to more than a week.

ARE YOU GUYS IN ANY OTHER BANDS AT THE MOMENT?

Andreas K: I play drums for Sanitär.

Jens: I´m in a project called Plexus but the drummer quit and we didn´t find another drummer until now.

Björn: I´m also playing drums in a band called Annex5. It´s punk´n´roll music with female vocals, my girlfriend is singing, check out our site at www.annex5.de

SO WHATS NEW WITH AUDIO KOLLAPS?

Björn: In January 2004 we recorded 7 new songs that will be released on 12inch vinyl for Epistrophy

Jens: Check it out!

ANY FINAL STATEMENTS?

Jens: Don´t hope we come to Canada, I hate flying and going by ship takes too much time. So you better come to Germany and have a good time.

Björn: I fought the beer - ... – and the beer won!

THANKS ALOT,STAY PUNK!
